Lambert “Buck” Juba started the successfully know Juba’s Supervalu in 1951 when he built the first store in Pipestone, MN. By 1956 he had expanded to a second store in Willmar, MN. With business booming, he was looking to expand in the early 1970’s and he purchased a third location in Blue Earth, MN (which still remains today). By 1973, Buck, with the help of his son, Tom, purchased a fourth store in Shakopee, MN. A fifth grocery and convenience store were purchased in the late 1970’s in Spicer, MN, but after a fire and a rebuild occurred at the Willmar location, the Juba’s were moving all over the state and experienced some hardships in the family. By 1990 the Spicer grocery and convenience stores were both sold. In 1993 the Shakopee store was sold to Rademacher’s of Prior Lake, and in 2005 the Juba’s sold the Pipestone store to Coburn’s of St. Cloud. Today, Tom’s son Tim manages the Blue Earth Juba’s Supervalu.
